Ferdinand G. Schleifer

Ferdinand G. Schleifer, 72, of Ashley, passed away Thursday, January 6, 2000 at 10:45 p.m. at the Jeffersonian Care Center in Mt. Vernon.
Mr. Schleifer was born May 3, 1947 at Nashville, the son of Ferdinand J. and Sarah Jane (Agg) Schleifer.  He was united in marriage to Sylvia J. Tucker on November 2, 1946 at the Fairview Baptist Church in rural Ashley and she preceded him in death on July 20, 1987.
Mr. Schleifer was retired from W.C. Niermann Co. in Nashville, having worked as a mechanic.  He was a member of the Ashley United Methodist Church, a former Mayor of Ashley, member of the Ashley Lions Club, member of the Washington County 911 Board, Assistant Chief of the Ashley Fire Department and a member of the Wings of Glory quartet.
Left to mourn his passing are two daughters, Betty Elaine Lathim and husband Mark of Herrin and Peggy Marie Marruffo and husband Adrian of Danville; a twin brother, John Schleifer and wife Marilyn of Roachville, IN; four sisters, Ann Hoyer and husband Joe of Cumberland, MD, Jane Clark and Ruth Clark, both of Nashville and Mary Cernan of Walnut Hill; a sister-in-law, Clara Reeder of Paxton; three grandchildren, Pamela Lathim of Herrin, Amy Williamson and husband Bill of Marion and Mario Marruffo of Chicago.  He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Sylvia.
Funeral services were held at the Campagna Funeral Home in Ashley on Tuesday, January 11 at 1 p.m. with the Reverends Chuck Trent and Tom Brewer officiating.  Interment followed in Richview Cemetery in Richview, IL.
Friends were able to call at the Campagna Funeral Home from 5 until 8 p.m. on Monday and from 7:30 a.m. until time of service on Tuesday.
Military rites were accorded at the Richview Cemetery by American Legion Post 110 of Nashville.
Should friends desire, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
